In an effort to make my Viliv S5 usable in 2012, I’ve successfully installed a HID touch driver and Wifi. The Wifi driver wasn’t easy to find. I found a Korean blogger citing a fix with files. I’ll host copies of it.
the gist of it is to use the reg file to “take ownership” of the driver folder. Then overwrite some driver files with the zip attached, then install the driver. once restarted, you’re good to go.
The Viliv S5 unfortunately uses GMA500 graphics driver which does not have a proper windows 8 driver. That is the last piece of the puzzle.
UPDATE
Apparently my instructions were too vague for some…
- CHANGE FOLDER PERMISSIONS:
- download Add_Take_Ownership.reg
- rename the file so it’s correctly a .reg file
- run it so it adds a new right click action that takes control over files/folders
- goto “c:\windows\system32” in windows explorer
- right click on “drivers” folder and click “take ownership”
- MODIFY EXISTING DRIVER FILES: (this step definitely needed for viliv device. not sure on non-viliv)
- download s7_fix_
- unzip the files to “c:\windows\system32\drivers” replace when prompted
- INSTALL WIFI DRIVER:
- download Wifi_Driver
- unzip files to a folder
- open control panel and goto device manager
- right click on the unidentified network device and install driver (pointing to folder you unziped)
Hi,
I’m trying to install Windows 8 on Viliv S5 and having problems with Wifi and Touch too. Please email me your step by step solutions.
I have graphic driver installed by changing compatible mode to win 7, hope this will help!
Thank you!
